AI Enters India’s Pension System With Launch of Pension Sahayak

In a significant step toward modernizing citizen services, the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) has introduced an artificial intelligence-driven grievance management platform, Pension Sahayak, designed to simplify and accelerate complaint resolution for pension subscribers across India.

The newly launched platform will serve members of both the National Pension System (NPS) and the Atal Pension Yojana (APY), offering a unified digital ecosystem for filing grievances, tracking complaint status, and monitoring resolution progress. The system replaces the earlier Central Grievance Management System (CGMS) and aims to enhance accessibility, transparency, and efficiency.

Unified Platform for Faster Service Delivery

Developed in line with the Government of India’s next-generation public grievance management framework, Pension Sahayak consolidates multiple complaint-handling channels into a single interface.

Subscribers can access the platform through a web portal, mobile devices, and WhatsApp, allowing users to register and manage grievances without navigating separate systems. The initiative is expected to reduce response times while providing a more user-friendly experience.

Simplified Login Without PRAN Requirement

One of the platform’s major improvements is the removal of the need to manually enter a Permanent Retirement Account Number (PRAN) for access.

Users can now log in using their registered mobile number and a one-time password (OTP). If multiple pension accounts are linked to the same mobile number, the platform automatically displays all associated accounts under a single login dashboard.

Additionally, Atal Pension Yojana subscribers who have misplaced their PRAN details can retrieve their information directly through the platform, reducing administrative hurdles.

Multilingual Support Across 22 Indian Languages

To improve inclusivity and expand access to pension services, Pension Sahayak has been integrated with the government’s language technology initiative, Bhashini.

The platform supports 22 Indian languages, enabling users to submit grievances and receive assistance in their preferred language. This feature is expected to particularly benefit rural subscribers, senior citizens, and individuals more comfortable communicating in regional languages.

Voice-Based Complaint Registration Introduced

Recognizing the varying levels of digital literacy among pension subscribers, the platform includes voice-enabled grievance registration.

Users can simply speak their complaints instead of typing them, making the process more accessible for elderly citizens and those unfamiliar with digital interfaces. The system can also provide responses through audio-based communication in the subscriber’s chosen language.

This feature aims to bridge the gap between advanced technology and user convenience while ensuring broader participation across demographics.

AI to Automate Complaint Management

At the heart of Pension Sahayak is an artificial intelligence engine that automatically categorizes grievances and routes them to the relevant department or authority for action.

By reducing manual intervention, the system is expected to improve operational efficiency and ensure faster processing of complaints. Subscribers can monitor progress through real-time status updates and track resolution timelines via a centralized dashboard.

The platform accepts both text-based and voice-based submissions, offering flexibility in how users interact with the system.

Automatic Escalation and Digital Appeals

A notable feature of the new platform is its built-in escalation mechanism. If a grievance remains unresolved beyond the designated timeframe, the system can automatically escalate the issue to higher authorities for review.

Subscribers also have the option to escalate complaints directly to the NPS Trust through a single-click process. Furthermore, appeals to the Ombudsman can be filed digitally within the same grievance ticket, eliminating the need for separate applications and streamlining dispute resolution.

Enhanced Oversight Through Data Analytics

Beyond citizen-facing services, Pension Sahayak provides regulators with powerful monitoring and governance capabilities.

The platform offers centralized dashboards, advanced analytics, and real-time reporting tools that enable authorities to track complaint volumes, identify recurring issues, monitor escalation trends, and evaluate the performance of intermediaries within the pension ecosystem.

These insights are expected to help improve service quality and strengthen accountability across pension administration channels.

A New Chapter in Digital Pension Services

Industry experts view Pension Sahayak as a major milestone in the application of artificial intelligence to public service delivery. By combining multilingual access, voice-enabled support, automated workflows, and real-time monitoring, the platform aims to make pension grievance redressal more efficient and citizen-centric.

The initiative is expected to benefit millions of NPS and APY subscribers, particularly senior citizens and rural users, while reinforcing transparency and responsiveness within India’s growing pension infrastructure.
